The highlights for the last quarter were myself and Vanity Faire placing 2nd and 3rd in our classes at the NRA Derby in March, and Clouseau winning his potential showjumper class at the Young Horse Championship Show at SDRC. I also won training dressage classes in March with both Moonlight Gambler and Cork Forest (which was hugely pleasing on the day as I had a bet going against Brendan, and beat him on both of his young horses!!)

In April, Brendan (my husband) was very busy course building at most of the shows, but also managed some riding in between. Vanity Faire placed 2nd in her class at Glenellen in Hout Bay, and then Brendan had a good weekend at the Noordhoek Eventing placing 2nd on Cork Forest, and 7th on Gemmology. Over the Easter Weekend we hosted a fun show here at Broadlands for the young riders, and then took 2 young horses to their 1st graded show at new venue – Europa Equestrian up the N7. Moonlight Gambler impressed with clear round, and Radio Star was fantastic with 2 x 2nd prizes, and looking to be a good competition horse for the future.

At the beginning of May, we were way for a quick 2nd honeymoon (before the family expands!!), and are now looking forward to Brendan’s first competition with Vanity Faire this weekend at Europa, and then the Stellenbosch Eventing next weekend.

Generally things quieten down a bit in Cape Town over the winter months, but we are planning on another training show here at Broadlands (before it gets too wet), as well as dressage at Firlands and Jumping at Europa in June. Then interprovincial eventing in George during July (will be weird for me not to be riding on the WP Team this year for the 1st time since 1999!!!), as well as jumping in Noordhoek and at SDRC. In August we are planning for the Ostrich Farm and Rondeberg Eventing.
